| A note about grades: Master Grade
5A & 4A are our very
best tops they will be stiff, close even grain, good
even color and will be perfectly quartered showing
silking or medullary rays. AAA
will be stiff, straight grain, well quartered,
may have slight
color variation and good annular ring spacing, may drift to slightly
wider grain toward the outer side. AA will be slightly
wider ring spacing (most times toward the outer edge), more color variation. AA
are very capable of producing great sounding instruments and
are sometimes even as stiff or stiffer that higher grades.
Definitely a best buy in tops. A grade will
usually have some visible cosmetic flaw, pin knots or some
defect that will be inside a standard pattern. |
